BOXWOOD

This house was an early 20th century Dutch Colonial suburban house on a tree-lined residential street.

View from the south showing the new addition on the right. A new Master Bedroom is on the second floor.

The Driveway was between the north side of the house and the north property line – awkward with groceries  and no proper back entry convenient to the kitchen.

The enlarged plan created a proper back entrance through a mud room with a powder room.  Also a serving pantry leading to the Dining Room.

Ground floor plan shows the Dining Room and Living Room with a fireplace. There was a gloomy Kitchen and a tiny back porch and entry next to the breakfast area.
The new extension provided a much more efficient Kitchen open to a family dining area. There was also a sitting area by the new fireplace and a desk with telephone, cookbooks, files, etc. The nondescript room between the kitchen and the Music/Living Room became a Library with a desk by the window.

The wide steps made the transition from the main living level to the new ground level terrace level more gracious.
